Jessica’s favorite childhood memory was when she was six and her parents took her to a lake. “As they watched me from the shore, I bounced up and down on the sand in neck-high dirty lake water. I remember my dad saying, ‘Jess, come closer to us’… but I kept jumping. Soon the sand gave way below me, and I couldn’t tell the difference between the top and bottom as I sunk into the water. The sun shown through the green muck. I panicked, suspended in nothing – I couldn’t breathe. I then saw two hands come out of the darkness as my dad lifted me out of the water and above his head. I caught my breath as he held me close. My dad had rescued me.”
